I was told to choose an organization that helps or even that works with people that live out of the Israel. I chose this project because I wanted to learn some of the ways that Israel makes peace with other countries in addition to that I also wanted to know why, how, and when this organization works with people over-seas. I wanted to see also how young adults can help change the world. These people travel to many countries trying to make peace between Israel and other places. This helps Israel to feel safer, to feel that there are people out there that they are in peace with. It is very encouraging to the people living in the holy land that they are safer and also there are people out in the world that really have no problem with Israel and think that Israel is a normal place just like all the other countries in the world. The Hasbara organization teaches other governments that there is no reason to hate us and all the horrible rumors that people hear are not true.

What is Hasbara and how does Hasbara help Israel have peaceful communications with lots of different places in the world?
Article
Hasbara is an organization that helps save Israel from having countless people as enemies. This organization has helped different countries and while helping others Hasbara have also helped Israel. By helping different countries they put out a good name for Israel, they have shown people what Israel is and that we are a good country that only wants peace.
The word Hasbara in other words, explanation is the name of an organization that is "pro Israel propaganda"(public diplomacy,1). Hasbara was established in 1970 and was called "overseas image- building" later on they changed there definition a number of times until in 1984 when the project finally got to the name "Hasbara Project"(2). Hasbara was there to train service officers from different places to communicate by assigning them to American companies. Carl Spielvogel was the chairman of a different organization named backer, and he traveled to Israel to help the government with communicating Israel's defense goals. One foreign ministry staff officer said that Israel efforts to provide Hasbara out of Israel will focus on communicating through media so that people would stay interested in the presentations that are shown to them.
A couple years later, Hasbara started working with young adults. These people work with Hasbara in lots of different ways. For example Hasbara at York: the students in York University started their own individual Hasbara project. These students goal is to educate all the students and staff that are on campus about what is happening in Israel, Israel's past, social realities, and also to support Israel's well being. In the end of this project most of the York University campus was interested in understanding what is happening in
Israel and that there is no reason for the Arab to do there terrorist attacks and there is no reason that Israelis should always be afraid to live.
Hasbara goes all around different places in the world to make peace and to make a connection with all these different places. Hasbara explains to the foreign people that Israel is a good place. They highlight all the good things about Israel and all the times that the Arabs and other people lied to the world about us the Jews. The people work in Hasbara slide shows about what message they are trying to send out to people. One of the slide shows said that most of the times that Israel and other countries have an agreement of peace the other nation or government always break it with war, taking our people hostage, gong into innocent Jewish homes and shooting everyone that is present in the house. Once the people of Hasbara explain to foreign people that Israel is really a good country, the other governments and the people that live in these places realize that they have no reason to hate us. As a result, we have more people understanding Israel and peace with more countries in the world.
In Canada, a Hasbara fellowship teaches lots of Canadian youth about Israel. There are three branches in Canada, one in Toronto one in Montreal, and one in western Canada. There is an activism training program in Israel exclusively for Canadian students. The program contains campaigns training courses and lots of others in at least 20 Canadian universities a year. They give opportunities to network and more with the Hasbara fellowship students including organizations like the " Canadian federation of Jewish students"(CJPAC).they also post blogs and events on the vertual calendar about what is happening across Canada that is pro-Israel and anti-Israel so that they know what is happening. With all this and more the Hasbara fellowship is helping Canada get the pro-Israel action back on the Canadian grounds.
Hasbara fellowship has created an Israel activism training organization in Canada that trains the students to stand up for what they believe in, to stand up for Israel. They provide a great amount of support resources. Since the year 2001, almost 500 Canadian students, from more than 30 universities, have attended the Hasbara fellowship activism training program that takes place in Israel. Hasbara fellowship ran about 200 events all across Canada which included the educational training the students, speaking to the students and having the student speak during different conferences with them between the years 2006 and 2010. Hasbara regularly works with about 25 universities and colleges throughout Canada always providing guidance and the support for jews.
Hasbara has helped so many people and places and they are continuing to do so. They find places that need help and that they would like to make peace with them and then get in contact with them. Hasbara has many different ways to help including slide shows, speeches and so forth. Using these methods they almost always succeed in making full peace and giving other people a feeling of what Israel really is.
To all the people around her Laura is a great and inspiring person. She now lives in Neve Daniel and is really enjoying herself. Most of the people are Americans and all of the people are caring, sweet people the are always willing to help, when asked for and also when not asked for just like Laura Ben David is. Laura still works for Nefesh B'Nefesh, an aliyah aid organization, she has worked there for the past four years and really likes working there. The people that work in Nefesh B'Nefesh are amazing people that are willing to help anybody make aliyah when they want.
Laura is a full time working mom of six children, all at different ages, one of her daughter got married in the past two months. She doesn’t have all the free time just like any other normal parent because that she is working full time and has lots of little children. Laura enjoys playing around with her kids, andsometimes they go rollerblading around the streets together.
Laura's immigration to Israel was very hard for her and her whole family. None of her kids knew Hebrew and that made it harder for everybody to communicate with the people in the community that they moved to which was Neve Daniel. Laura made "aliyah" on the first Nefesh B'Nefesh flight. At first they were planning to make aliyah on a regular flight just lie all the Jews until then but then when their Rabbi Yehoshua Fass also the executive director of Nefesh B'Nefesh came up with the idea of helping Jews in the U.S. and the U.K. making "aliyah" they thought it was a great idea to participate.
Rabbi Yehoshua Fass decided to make Nefesh B'Nefesh when he heard that an Arab murdered a young relative of his who was on his way to school. He thought that it would be very hard for him to make "aliyah" and get a job because there are a countless amount of rabbis in Israel but when he herd
this tragic news he took change of his destiny and thought that he should also help other Jews make "aliyah" to show people that that nothing can stop him.
Laura was planning to make aliyah (immigrate to Israel) for many years before the plan actually started happening. At first the Ben David family would just talk about it a little bit but then it became what they lived for. Their dream finally started coming true, but they didn’t know how to tell the children. One day one of her girls came up with the idea of moving to Israel and then Laura thought that it would be a good idea to get her to tell the other kids about her wonderful idea. At first all the kids were really excited and then they started realizing that moving away from there home means moving away from all their friends and there school and there childhood. In the end they made "aliyah" and the whole family was happy to do so.
The first flight of Nefesh B'nefesh took of in the summer of 2002 and that is exactly when Laura and her husband planned to move so it was actually extremely helpful for them. More than a hundred of families signed up for the first Nefesh B'nefesh flight which was very surprising because many terrorist attacks occurred during that period of time.
Nefesh B'Nefesh helps Jewish people make aliyah to Israel without having to think about not having a place to live and many more. Nefesh B'Nefesh tries to remove all the opsticals of moving to Israel. When making aliyah with Nefesh B'Nefesh they help you find a nice community to live in, help you find a nice school that treats new comers nicely, and also provide the people with resources that will help them get used to Israel. In addition to that they also help people financially and also in health care.
Laura decided to work in Nefesh B'Nefesh after she made aliyah with them. Laura Ben David saw how much Nefesh B'Nefesh helped her and decided that working in Nefesh B'Nefesh is what she wants do to. She wants to help people make aliyah like she was helped; she also wants to give different people the idea of making aliyah. Laura ben david felt that it would be a good influence to all the people who want to make aliyah to have an experienced worker. In Nefesh B'Nefesh Laura works in the marketing department that works with social media, marketing on facebook, and also twitter. She advertises on all different kinds of websites that almost every person has or looks at. Whoever doesn’t look at their facebook will probably look on twitter and then see advertisements and information about Nefesh B'Nefesh.
Laura really enjoys working at Nefesh B'Nefesh. She thinks that the people that she works with are amazing people and she wouldn’t enjoy going to work so much if it wasn’t for the staff that she works with. She is a full time working mom. She comes back every day at around five o'clock to six o'clock in the evening and then has a couple of hours to spend with her family before their bed time.
Nefesh B'Nefesh is ready to help any Jew that is legally allowed to move to Israel. They are willing to help religious or even not religious Jews move to Israel. They are also willing to help kids, adults, people who are moving alone, families, and also help seniors move to Israel, Nefesh B'Nefesh is ready for everybody.
Laura's dream was always to move to Israel and she also thought a little about writing her book. After Laura made "aliyah" and published her book she decided to start living in the future. She has already dealt with all the problems that all normal families overcome, and her children have past all the hard parts of making aliyah like learning the new language and making new
friends, so she started feeling that the present is the important thing. So, she felt like it was time that she lived in her present and lived for her children's future. Laura Ben David decided that she has to start hoping and living for her children to have a good future like she has as an Israeli Jew.
Laura Ben David has a motto that she started living in when she moved to Israel and when she started living in the future. Laura's motto is "stop and smell the roses". When Laura says to stop and smell the roses she means that we should stop and appreciate what we have, we don’t always have live for the future but that we are aloud to stay in the moment, we should always be happy with what we have and don’t always dream and look forward even at the hard times. Even if you are not on good terms you can still look for the good things that you have and stop and appreciate also the bad.
A message for all from Laura Ben David that she would like to pass on and that she would like every person in the Israel population to know. Aliyah is a challenging thing to do and there are a lot of people who made aliyah, we should help these people by making them feel like they belong to something, we should give them love, care, and we should also make them feel like Israel is place for everybody and that they also belong here in the holy land.
Personal Connection
When I think about the 2011 "I faces" project I think about how Israel is a place that helps everybody. The Jewish people in Israel are the most caring people that I have ever met. One day they are normal people and the next day they have opened an organization for kids with cancer or any other sickness. There is also an organization that helps old and lonely people, people that they live by themselves and that need some company. I think Israel is a place that people come to help, nobody just stands on the side and lets people suffer. The Jewish Israelis live in gush etzion and lots of other places that if no one lived here then the Arabs would take the land and build houses for themselves. The picture of the tree is a picture of Alon Haboded (the lonely tree), it is a tree that has been standing for many years and we are still saving it from dying. The pictures from the army symbolizes that Israel is all together, every boy that gets to age nine teen goes to the army with pride and hope to help save Israel from enemies. All in all I think that Israel is a place that the Jews always have someone to go to when they want. Everybody helps in their own way.
